This school is a Title 1 school, meaning that a majority of the students come from families under the poverty line. Many of these families struggle to afford the basic school supplies their children need. This is where Milton Ruben Toyota steps in. Not only is our staff helping out by bringing in donations, we're reaching out into the community and asking for your help! We're asking everyone to bring in supplies until August 7th. All supplies brought in will be distributed at the school's " Back to School Bash " on August 10! Some of the suggested donation items: crayons, #2 pencils, composition books, glue sticks, markers, wide ruled paper, rulers, folders, eraser, hand sanitizers, tissues and anything else you think a student would need. Key dates and facts for the 2013 program: July 22 to Aug. 5 – Up to 2,500 applications will be accepted. Aug. 19 – The 250 finalists will be announced and will receive promotional materials to help raise awareness for their organizations during the voting period and in their work beyond. Oct. 1 – Voting will begin and continue for 50 consecutive days on Toyota’s Facebook page, granting consumers two votes each day to select two separate winning organizations. On May 23, 2013 Toyota today announced a $250,000 donation to support relief and rebuilding efforts for victims of the tornado that hit Moore, Oklahoma and the greater Oklahoma City area on May 20. Funds will be allocated to immediate response and for mid-to-long term needs in the areas of food, small business revitalization and home rebuilding. Toyota will also match employee contributions. “On behalf of Toyota, we express our sincere condolences to everyone impacted by this devastating tornado. Our thoughts are with the affected families as they work to rebuild their lives,” said Latondra Newton, group vice president of philanthropy and chief diversity officer. On April 27th, Milton Ruben Toyota had the pleasure of being at the Kicks 99 Hooked on Bass Fishing Tournament weigh in. With over 250 teams entered into this tournament, the competition was stiff! But of course there could only be one top winner... Well, actually there were two! There were two categories to compete in, the over all biggest weigh in (with a top prize of $15,000) and the big fish weigh in (with a top prized of $2,000). Everyone waited patiently as boats were called and weigh ins were announced. The over all winner ended up being boat 37, Glenn Gentry and Bart Blackburn with an amazing bag of 5 fish weighing at 24.76 lbs! The winner for the Big Fish cometition ended up being boat 26, Marvin Emis and Chris Rose with a single bass weighing in at 7.1 lbs! Santa came to Milton Ruben Toyota Scion on December 15th from 9am-1pm, and the turnout was great! Folks brought their children for a complimentary portrait with Santa Claus from Michael O'Byrne Photography, and spread the holiday spirit by decorating Christmas cards for senior citizens. Car and Driver, when asked about the Toyota Avalon, said, "In the past, we’ve characterized this biggest of all Toyota passenger cars as more Buick than Buick. It was a tribute—if you can call it that—to the Avalon’s quiet, competent operation, anonymous styling, and generally unobtrusive character." The Avalon has been redesigned inside and out for 2013. Toyota has gone with a much sleeker look by changing the angles of the windows, shortening the overhangs on front and rear, and lowered the beltline. The weight has been taken down almost 120 pounds, despite the more expensive use of spot welding and increased high-strength steel in the frame. The Avalon boasts a 3.5L V6 with 268hp. The Hybrid has a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine with ECO and Sport modes. Inside the car, leather seats are standard and the cabin is very spacious. From the instrument panel to the multiple touchscreen displays, luxury was in mind throughout the redesign of this Avalon. There is an upgraded JBL audio system and ambient lighting to boot.
