Augusta, Ga –

Despite having a harmless demeanor and pleasant attitude, a group of car salesmen at Milton Ruben Toyota of Augusta – a car dealership in Georgia – banded together and cut off the tie of new salesman, Dean Cook.

The group was seen wielding an extraordinarily dull pair of scissors, as Mr. Cook stood by in a mild state of shock at Friday morning’s sales meeting. Adding insult to injury, the attackers stuffed the tie – of questionable pattern choice – into the rookie’s shirt pocket.

“All I did was sell a 2011 Toyota Corolla,” said Mr.Cook. “Who knows what they’ll do if I sell a Sequoia or Tundra?”

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Dean Cook and coworkers will be at the Milton Ruben Toyota of Augusta Toyotathon sales event though January 3rd, including Sundays!

Toyota made a big showing in this year’s automotive awards.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s “Top Safety Picks for 2011” have been released, with more vehicles included  than any previous year – and under tighter standards.

IHHS writes, “To determine crashworthiness — how well a vehicle protects its occupants in a crash — the Institute rates vehicles good, acceptable, marginal, or poor based on performance in high-speed front and side crash tests, a rollover test, plus evaluations of seat/head restraints for protection against neck injuries in rear impacts. To earn TOP SAFETY PICK for 2011 a vehicle must have good ratings in all four Institute tests. In addition, the winning vehicles must offer electronic stability control.”

Cars, minivans and SUV’s in Toyota’s 2011 line up that received IIHS’s “Top Safety Picks for 2011” award include:

  • Toyota Avalon
  • Scion tC
  • Scion xB
  • Toyota Corolla
  • Toyota Sienna
  • Toyota Highlander
  • Toyota Venza

It’s important to note that the Toyota Sienna is the only “Top Safety Pick for 2011”  in the minivan category. This Toyota minivan also received an award from Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com as “Best Resale Value.”  It gets kudos for having the most cargo space in its class, for being the only all-wheel-drive minivan, and for having the best combined MPG ratings of any 7-8 passenger van (according to toyota.com).

Toyota also makes a big showing in U.S. News and World Reports “2010 Best Cars for the Money” awards. Noteworthy vehicles on the list include:

  • Toyota FJ Cruiser
  • Toyota Camry
  • Toyota Tacoma
  • Toyota Prius
  • Toyota Venza
  • Toyota Sequoia
  • Toyota Land Cruiser

The Toyota Sequoia was also awarded the “Most Dependable Large Multi-Use Vehicle” by J.D. Power and Associates – for the fourth year in a row. IntelliChoice.com gave it the “Best Overall Value of the Year for a Full-Size SUV.”

Popular Mechanics gets in on the award giving with their “Top 10 Cars of 2011: Auto Excellence Awards.” PM editor’s “record the functionality, technology, value and feel of new cars in [their] test drives.”  The 2011 Toyota Sienna was a pick.

Milton Ruben Toyota of Augusta is a Georgia car dealer selling new and used Toyota and Scion models, as well as Certified Preowned Toyotas.

The economic downtown has changed the way Americans are shopping, with an increased focus on value and savings. Used car dealerships have noticed this trend as they struggle to keep quality used cars or certified preowned cars on their lots.

A recent interest  in used car sales is sending a new wave of buyers to car dealerships and car dealer websites across the country. Why do consumers consider dealing with major  automotive dealers when there are also “used cars for sale by owner” listings scattered throughout the web?

Buyers – especially in these economic times – are afraid of making a purchasing mistake. Why?

Customers worry that a serious mistake buying a used car would waste money, negatively impact lifestyle, damage their credit rating, or even their ability to get to and from work. No wonder car buyers take this purchasing decision seriously.

There are typically  four main reasons why buyers still prefer local used car dealers when buying preowned cars, even with the option of buying from private sellers or small independent car lots.   These are the four major concerns:

  • Mechanical – Being unfamiliar with mechanical systems of cars. Buying a car with a serious defect that they would have to fix and pay for.
  • Time – Not wanting to expend the time and effort it takes to research online, call sellers, make a list  of the cars to see in person, schedule test drives, schedule mechanical inspections, and work around other people’s schedules.
  • Financing – Needing a loan. Finding a bank or credit union adds time .
  • Legalities – Not wanting to deal with a bill of sale, handling the title, figuring out  if there is a loan on the car, handling paperwork at the DMV, and having to go to the DMV in person.

Use car dealers have the distinct advantage over private sellers by offering one-stop-shopping convenience. Here’s how buying from a car dealer benefits the buyer:

  • Mechanical – Their mechanics inspect all pre-owned vehicles and fix any deficiencies.
  • Time – They offer a wide selection of used vehicles.Customers may be able to find the preowned vehicle they want by stopping at just one dealership. Buyers can test drive as many vehicles as they want, right there, safely and without worry about meeting strangers at unknown locations.
  • Financing – The dealer completes credit applications right away and strives for instant approval.
  • Legalities – They complete all the paperwork. No trip to the DMV.

Thank you, James and Sally, for sharing your car buying experiences at Milton Ruben Toyota, and giving us such positive reviews!

You’ve seen the commercials. The wife opens a small box with a sparkling key tucked inside, gasps, and races outside to find her dream car – a Toyota FJ Cruiser – decorated with a big, red bow. Should you even consider making this fantasy a reality this holiday season? Emotions and holiday cheer aside – does buying a car this time of year make sense?

End of the year is a good time for a great deal in the auto biz

Unlike other products that see their prices fall after the holidays, before the holidays is the best time to purchase a car, whether it be a Toyota Sienna minivan, a Toyota Camry sedan, a Toyota Highlander SUV, or a Toyota Tundra truck. Yearly quotas are due, dealers need to reduce their inventory, and it’s a relatively slow time. Most dealers will have their most aggressive pricing, and the salesmen will have plenty of time to attend to your needs. Also, the new models are coming out, so there is added incentive to move this year’s models.

Choose a dealer who wants to make the process easy for you

It’s holiday time, so you really don’t need to add stress to your plate. Choose a dealer with an easy trade-in process. A good dealer will have a trade-in value estimator on their website. You can also initiate your search online, and do all of the inquiries via email. Being clear about exactly what choices you have will make the buying process much smoother, and again, save you valuable time.

Choose a dealer with a large inventory to save time

You won’t want to be driving all over your city to check out the different models you are researching. Choose a dealer with a variety of brands and with a huge inventory. You want choices.

Details to consider

If you need to hide the car until Christmas, ask your dealer to keep it at their lot until you are ready to arrange a pick up. Getting a car for Christmas is a big deal, and usually gets a big reaction. Be prepared with your camera or video to capture the look of surprise. And just in case she/he had their heart set on another color, be sure to discuss with your dealer the return policy.

Have a wonderful holiday season!

If shopping for a used Toyota – from a dealer or private party – makes you second guess the trustworthiness of the seller and the reliability of the vehicle, there may be a better solution. Look into  a Toyota dealer who also operates a Toyota Certified Used Car program. These programs are operated jointly by Toyota and the dealer, and guarantee the quality, condition, and future long life of the car, truck, crossover, or SUV in the program.

What to Expect from Toyota Certified Used Vehicles

  • According to Autodata Corp., over 2 million have been sold in America
  • 3 month or 3000 mile Comprehensive Warranty
  • 7 year or 100,000 mile Limited Powertrain Warranty
  • 7 year or 100,000 mile Roadside Assistance
  • 160 point Quality Assurance Inspection
  • CARFAX Vehicle History Report

Take a closer look at the 160 point inspection, warranty, and roadside assistance.

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Must be within 6 years of current model year
  2. Less than 85, 000 miles

The Big Picture

Toyota and Toyota dealers find the best cars for these programs, with most coming from 2 or 3 year leases or from rental fleets.  You get a clean, undamaged vehicle that has passed a rigorous inspection and is guaranteed. With attractive interest rates, additional perks, and the security of a warranty, buying Toyota Certified Used is an excellent choice for peace of mind.

It’s the holiday season, and so we begin our annual road trips to see all of the relatives. Get your car ready for the road by taking a little time to review our car care checklist. A little maintenance and prevention goes a long way, and lets you focus on the joys of the season.

If your car is due for an oil change, tune-up, or other regular service, go ahead and make your appointment now – ahead of the last minute crowd.

If time is tight, Milton Ruben Toyota Scion – an automotive group located in Augusta, GA – recommends that you do at least three things:

Check your fluids. Engine oil, brake fluid, windshield wiper fluid, antifreeze or coolant, transmission fluid, and power steering fluid.

Check your tires. Do they have bulges, bald spots, or uneven treads? Are they properly inflated according to the recommendations in your owner’s manual?

Check the hoses and belts. Look for frays, leaks and loose or missing clamps. You don’t want to find out on the side of the road – with a car load of kids – that you have a much bigger problem!

If the idea of locating all of these fluids, belts and hoses- much less making a sound judgement on the reliability of them – seems daunting, trust your local service department to get your car into top shape for you. You can even ask for or find service coupons on your service department’s website. Let them ensure that your car is safe and road ready, while you focus on driving to your destination worry free!

Happy Travels!
