The New 2018 Toyota 4Runner

Love off-roading and exploring remote terrains? Looking for an SUV that can keep up with your adventurous lifestyle? You may find yourself considering vehicles like the Nissan Pathfinder or the Dodge Durango in your search for the perfect off-roading vehicle – but the Toyota 4Runner leaves its competition in the dust with its ability to tackle rugged terrain with ease.

The 4Runner boasts a 5-star safety rating and includes new high-tech safety features such as Active Headrests, which adjust and respond to prevent whiplash in the event of a collision.

Kelley Blue Book refers to the 4Runner as “the perfect companion” for those who frequent hard-to-access trailheads and remote climbing spots. With a towing capacity of up to 5,000 lbs. and 270-horsepower, it is perfect for hauling a heavy trailer or camper for your weekend getaway. The power rear window is perfect for loading in gear without lifting the back gate, or lower it down for better visibility when mud or dirt have clouded your rear view.

When the terrain gets a little too rough, rest assured knowing you have a full-sized spare tire on board to keep your adventure going without long delays.

Now, as rugged as this vehicle is on the outside, the inside may surprise you with its many refined features. The driver’s seat comes standard with an eight-way power lumbar support. Upgrades include heated and ventilated front seats and a moonroof.

The 4Runner comes with many of the standard options you have come to expect from your new car – all power windows, keyless entry, and more. But the 4Runner also boasts Optitron instrumentation – allowing the gauges to be easy to see in the day or night; premium upholstery materials, and standard Hill Assist Control to help keep the vehicle from rolling backwards while making its way up a steep climb.

According to Toyota.com, 90% of 4Runners that were sold in the last ten years are still on the road today. How’s that for reliability and durability?

You will get a sense of safety and assurance knowing that the 4Runner is built to handle whatever Mother Nature can throw at it. Still not convinced? Compare the 4Runner to similar SUVs below or come out and take one for a spin today!

TOYOTA 4RUNNER VS. CHEVROLET EQUINOX

The 2018 Chevrolet Equinox has undergone a slight makeover from previous model, offering a new paint color option and new packages. Upgrades on the model did not include some features that are standard in the 4Runner, however. The 4Runner is not only safer than the Equinox (rating 5-stars to the Equinox’s 4), easier to maintain, and have a higher towing capacity.

The 4Runner also boasts more standard features:

  • Active headrests/whiplash protection system
  • Sonar Parking assist, front and back
  • Smart Key System
  • Heated mirrors for better visibility
  • Dual zone air conditioning
  • Built-in pollen filtration system

TOYOTA 4RUNNER VS. HYUNDAI SANTA FE

The Santa Fe is a solid mid-size SUV, offering many standard safety and hi-tech features comparable to the 4Runner.  Hyundai, however, ranks 19th in reliability while Toyota ranks fourth. Overall, Toyota vehicles are considerably more reliable than Hyundais. Consumer Reports say the 4Runner’s reliability will outrank the Santa Fe by 85 percent. Toyota also pays for scheduled maintenance for the 4Runner for 2 years and 250,000 miles. Hyundai does not pay for any scheduled maintenance. Among these advantages, the 4Runner also offers:

  • Whiplash protection system
  • More horsepower and towing capacity
  • Less expensive to operate
  • Keyless remote operated windows
  • Higher rated headlight performance
  • More torque (4.0 DOHC V6 engine)

TOYOTA 4RUNNER VS. NISSAN PATHFINDER

The 4Runner and the Pathfinder are similar in their towing capacity, size and safety ratings. However, the 4Runner offers the reliability and standard features that you are looking for:

  • Gas-charged shocks for better control
  • More balanced weight distribution for more stable handling and braking
  • Tighter turning circle
  • More torque
  • Entune® App Suite

TOYOTA 4RUNNER VS. KIA SORENTO

The Sorento boasts a similar 5-star safety rating as the 4Runner and recently was upgraded to accommodate more space. Still, the 4Runner outperforms the Sorento in reliability, ease of maintenance, fuel economy and more. Other advantages include:

  • Optional sway bars for better off-roading
  • More passenger and cargo space
  • Safety Connect™
  • More horsepower and towing capacity
  • GPS system includes real-time traffic updates

TOYOTA 4RUNNER VS. DODGE DURANGO

Both the 4Runner and Durango have 4-star overall safety ratings. And while the Durango may have a lower MSRP, estimates are the 4Runner will cost less to insure as well as retain more of its original price after five years. When it comes down to reliability, fuel efficiency, and warranty coverage, the 4Runner clearly outshines the Durango.

The 4Runner also offers more standard features, such as:

  • Smart Key system with push button start
  • Greater off-road suspension articulation
  • Standard Entune® App Suite
  • Bluetooth wireless connectivity
  • Shorter stopping power
  • Full size spare tire
